As the 1950s were winding down, a changing of the guard at G.M. — when Harley Earl, the design chief, was succeeded by William Mitchell — prompted a house cleaning. To save storage costs, dozens of show cars were slated for disposal. Seen here, the 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special.

Customizing

The ideal candidate for Customizing Cars argues over which shade of dark blue belongs on a '61 Impala and can convince someone else why the same shade would never work on the '58 Thunderbird. The ideal candidate sees no difference in insisting the new exhaust sound as good as the new stereo. The idea candidate stays up late planning each step in the car they are currently customizing, searching for the exact right fit, regardless of who will see the finished product.

This site, however, will not focus on restoring cars. So many topics covered will have to be written from the novice perspective and those projects should be reachable on budgets that are modest from a financial perspective as well as time.

Obviously, the idea candidate will have a solid foundation regarding all aspects of customizing a car from exteriors to interiors and be involved in the tuner world. Applicants should provide visitors with insightful, practical, and actionable information on the subject of customization. Applicants should be car journalists with customizing experience and established contacts in the car customizing industry/community. Potential candidates’ expertise is important in providing our visitors with a first hand experience of this pastime.

The Guide for Customizing Cars will spend most of his/her time writing original articles, produce terrific photos of cars being worked on and maintain a timely and entertaining blog.

PRIMARY AUDIENCE:

Everyone wants to make their car uniquely theirs, but most folk don't yet have the skills to take on these kinds of tasks -- that's who this site will be written for. Most articles will be written with the assumption the reader has no previous experience so the articles will need to be clearly written, perfectly illustrated and nearly jargon free.
